The Simplex 4050-80 Series was introduced in the early 1970s and replaced by the 2903 Series in the late 1970s. they are usually found with 4050, 4051, 2901-9833, or 4040 horns. The frame is made of steel and lens of plastic. The models are listed in the image on the right

A variant of the 4050-80 series has been spotted as a 100% flush mount model, which no one knows the model number, however, I have found a PDF of a school in Arizona having companies bid for F/A maintenance, etc listing a "4051-60" and "4051-62" as a horn/lamp. I dont know if this variant is the 4051-XX series or not. if you know, please email me. photo is at bottom right.

Mounting the 4050-80 takes a lot of effort and only 4'' square horns or bells will fit such as the 4050, 2901-9833, 4040, etc. anything wider will not fit, eg: 9838, 9805, etc.

Some Plates will have FIRE screen printed on them, others will not.

REPLACING BULBS:

1. unscrew the red plastic screws on the side of the red lens.

2. remove the cover

3. replace bulbs with 24-28v (or 120vac) T3/4 bayonet bulbs available from radio shack.

4. move the metal screw-holding arms into position for the plastic screws to go into. (this is easiest then the unit is not mounted and holding them from the back) also, make sure the metal reflecting plate is in position.

5. screw in the plastic screws gently to avoid stripping them.
